I’ve heard so many people say that about CAE, people get them as algae eaters but they sound like fish killers!! I wish lfs’s would stop selling them like they’re oto’s or plecos!!

Also, the chinese algae eater will be fine for now, but they become aggressive when they mature. I know because I had exactly this problem. They also like to harrass goldfish because of their slimey scales. He will also need re-homing as he gets older, they can grow to 12 inches!

If this is really a 5 gallon tank your goldfish will outgrow it fairly quickly. To live long and healthily you need 20 us gallons for your first goldy, then 10 gallons for each additional. This is partially because the can grow to a good 10 inches or more, but also because they are massive waste producers. This much water is needed to dilute the waste they produce!
