Choosing A Fish Aquarium Tank

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

A fully stocked and well-lighted fish aquarium tank will give many hours of enjoyment and be the focal point of a room. Choose the tank’s location carefully as it is not easily moved. By setting up your fish tank where you spend most of your time, you will be able to get the most pleasure out of it.

Place the aquarium where it is easily accessible for regular and convenient maintenance. Often a poorly located aquarium can result in neglect, increasing risk of fish disease or equipment malfunction that remains unnoticed. Overall, a larger aquarium tank does tend to need cleaning less often, but make sure you locate your aquarium where it will be easy to maintain.

There are many types and sizes of fish aquariums to choose from so consider your needs and desires here. First of all you should decide how big you want your aquarium. A common mistake people make is choosing a much too small tank andfish aquarium tank overpopulating it. You should be careful not to overload your tank with too many fish as this will cause stress on all the fish as well as cause your water quality to degrade. The numbers and sizes of fish that can be kept are affected by both the tank size and the tank dimensions. For this reason, it may help to know what kinds of fish you want to keep when shopping for a fish aquarium tank. The general rule of thumb for a freshwater tropical fish aquarium tank is one inch of fish per gallon of water. If you add too many fish, you will have to spend more time changing the water and will need really good filtration in order to keep your tank healthy. Getting an oddly shaped fish tank will somewhat limit your choices of inhabitants. Many fish need long areas to swim and prefer longer, bigger tanks.

Most glass fish tanks only come in typical square forms. This is because their corners are bound by silicone and it is very hard to shape glass. However, acrylic aquariums can come in all shapes and sizes. This makes them very versatile. Therefore, if you want a very unique fish aquarium tank, then you should consider an acrylic one.

Finally, when choosing the right aquarium, make sure you take into consideration the weight of the filled tank. Unfilled acrylic tanks are 50 percent lighter than a traditional glass aquarium. This is one of the top benefits of buying an acrylic fish aquarium tank and is one of the main features that lead people to choose this type of fish tank. For those who live in apartments or are concerned about the weight of the tank on their floor, an acrylic aquarium is a good choice because they make the entire fish aquarium tank set up much lighter.

A good rule of thumb is to estimate the total weight of the aquarium as 10 pounds per gallon. So, a 75-gallon aquarium will weigh approximately 750 pounds. To avoid stress on your floor system, it is a good idea to place the aquarium against a weight-bearing wall.

A well chosen fish aquarium tank will enhance the room and give enjoyment for many years. So take some time carefully deciding on the size and location of your tank to make the most of your investment.

My new round 15 gallons aquarium\tank I just built

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Showing the new aquarium I just made out of Plexiglas (acrylic) sheet. I bent the sheet gradually by heating it in a card board box till I was able to make it in a tear drop shape. I used 2 types of glue to make sure it holds. I also made the filter from a 4 inch pipe. The pump is from a surplus store, so all in total with the table it cost me about 40$. If you need any info ask me. I will put a new video when it is all finished and I am happy with it.

Tropical fish tank - My very 1st one

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

My first tropical fish tank, although he pearl gourami seems to be hiding in this vid. Roughly a 2ft tank with stingray filter, elite heater, real plants, solid marble pieces, some stuck together to make columns, black/white gravel and a sunglow bulb. I did have a siamese fighter but i exchanged him as i was restricted to some nice fish i want in there. Please feel free to add any comments, still learning!

ps. The water did have a yellow tinge to it due to having 2 pieces of bog wood in there, turned my whole tank brown even after soaking it for a week! Crystal clear now though!
