You dont need to … You dont need to add fish to a marine tank for it go though a cycle….all you need is bunch of live rock+ Live sand and it will complete the cycle in few weeks.
Water movement and protein skimmer are important. You dont need a canister filter. Just builds up nitrates. Ive seen a huge reef tank with no mechanical or protein skimmer..and it looks so healthy…100% biological filtration.
Beneath amateurish … Beneath amateurish at best! If the tank contains that much live rock for “bio-filtration” why would you install a wet/dry filter? I guess this guy must plan on selling a lot of nitrate filters to his newbie viewers. What a clown!
all he wants is the … all he wants is the money and to convince everyone he can to go to an “expert” “installer” think about it hes not going to put the heart and souls and meticulousness into a tank thats not even his
Like hed420 said, … Like hed420 said, you would use fake corals if you are going to stock the tank with coral eating fish. Some of you guys on this vid have made some very idiotic comments and should do your research before you start throwing insults about that you know nothing about. Youve obviously never built or maintained a salt water tank of any kind. It can cost $5k+ to stock a large tank with live coral. Go spend $10k+ on a reef setup and throw in some parrot fish. See how long your REAL corals last.
Now I see why a lot … Now I see why a lot of people don’t trust these guys. What makes these so called experts, experts? First off..wet/dry filters suck. Your better off with a sump&refugium. Stay away from bioballs if you use LR. Using live fish to cycle a tank is inhuman, it will shorten the fish’s lives plus they suffer during the whole nitrogen process. Use unprocessed shrimp from your local deli as shtdaf mentioned. The only reason someone would use fake corals is if they have non reef safe fish such as angels.
True that damsels … True that damsels are extremely hardy, but you don’t need ’starter’ fish to cycle a tank. Take a fresh shrimp from your grocery store and drop it in. It will start the cycle in the tank. Monitor the parameters. Use live rock, it will benefit your tank, + fake deco is gay.
oh dear. people are … oh dear. people are going to listen to this information and end up spending hundreds of extra dollars… a disclaimer would be good
I Agree With ” … I Agree With “benjiontenors” Damsels Are Impossible To Kill. The Very First Tank I Ever Got In My Life Was A Saltwater One. So We Went To The Store, Got A 10 Gal. Tank, Box Of Instant Ocean, 8 Buck Hang On Filter, And 2 Damsels And Went Home. Got Home, Poured The Water, Poured A Little Salt In (I Guess We Just “Skipped” The Instructions) Plugged In The Filter, And Just Poured The Fish In. They Lived For A Good 4 Months. Long Story Short…Cycle With Damsels
If you have a … If you have a saltwater fish only tank and don’t want to kill any fish during cycling, get Damsels. They’re impossible to kill. I believe they areactually demon posesed.
Couple fast … Couple fast pointers there bro. First off you can use REAL coral, not fake ones. Second, if you have “motors pulling water” down from your overflow, and pumping it back up… then you’re a moron. If one of those pumps fails, then you flood the room and ruin your tank. The whole point of an overflow is that its a siphon that stops if the powerhead does…
benji, we are so … benji, we are so very similar, except you have one more tank then me =P. Yea I’m 14 too. I can’t stand pompous like this guy that just want to take all your money, and take all the fun out of setting up an aquarium.
I also want to add … I also want to add that understanding how to do this isn’t that hard. Less than a year after starting my first saltwater aquarium, and shortly after starting my 2nd and 3rd ones, I was offered a job at the local fish store cause I knew more about aquariums than some of the staff. It al comes down to how dedicated you are to the hobby. the last part of the video is mostly incorrect.
I set up my … I set up my aquariums (notice the “s” as in three saltwater and two freshwater.) by myself with no experience, and I’m only 14. If you read the instructions and actually talk to people instead of thinking you can do it on your own, it’s a really easy process.
we were setting up … we were setting up our 60 gallon tank and it was so complicated and some parts were missing…but im worried about the PH so for my starter fish i was the fish guy said that i should get mollies ..but i want to get all my fish to be community fish..if i get them then is it ok 2 mix the semi-agressive with the community?
i honestly dont … i honestly dont believe that someone who hasnt kept fish before could set up the tank correctly but saying that i dont think they have - no phos reactor or topup unit in a tank of that size?
